“An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth An Pound Of Cure”
At Leading Edge Physical Therapy we spend a lot of time helping sporting teams and individuals prevent injuries.
In the modern sporting era, player availability can go a great way to determining the result of a lot of matches. If you have the best team on the field, you have a much greater chance of winning.
We help you win more, by helping you prevent injuries in your team.
What Is A Musculoskeletal Screening?
Musculoskeletal Screenings involve targeted tests of muscle lengths, strengths and assessment of sporting technique that are relevant to the sport the person is participating in.
They allow factors predisposing an athlete to injury or a performance hindrance to be highlighted and corrected.
Screenings can also involve the use of sport specific fitness testing to ascertain the athletes’ preparation for their sport.
Comparing the data from these tests to “normal” values and those that have been shown to pre-dispose to injury allows us to quickly identify areas of concern.
This is fed back to the patient and/or coach is an easy to digest format that allows all parties to realise the areas that need to be worked on, with corrective exercises provided.
What Sort Of Information Can I Expect To Receive?
Whilst some of the tests performed during a Musculoskeletal Screening are somewhat technical, we ensure that the feedback you receive afterwards does not require a university degree to comprehend.
We present your Screening results in an easy to digest “traffic light” format – highlighting areas of concern in red, areas to work on in yellow and areas that appear satisfactory in green.
The types of sports that we provide Musculoskeletal Screenings for include (but are not limited to):
- Football (AFL)
- Water Polo
- Rugby Union
- Surf Life Saving
Can You Cater For Large Groups Or Teams?
This is exactly what we specialise in.
We regularly take school groups and sporting teams through this process and all parties find it an invaluable experience.
It is an ideal thing to do during a pre-season period for your sport, when you are most likely to be able to find the time to do the testing, but also implement the corrective exercise routine.
Whatmore, it becomes a very cost-effective way of getting high quality assessments, maximising the time we put into it.
We are capable of accommodating large groups at either of our practices, but can also go off-site to your club or school location to make it more convenient for your athletes.
