Sports Team Coverage

TeamProviding comprehensive and professional physiotherapy services to athletes and sporting teams is an integral part of our practice.

Members of our team provide a range of sports coverage services from grass roots teams and organisations right through to SA State and National athletes and representative teams.

Members of our team are APA Sports Physiotherapists and preferred providers with the SA Institute of Sport in various sports.

James Trotter has also represented Australia at the Beijing and London Olympics as a Team Physiotherapist and was the Deupty Head of Physiotherapy at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Football (AFL)

Our sports physios in Adelaide have worked at all levels within the state, from the weekend Amatuer through to treating current AFL stars.

We have worked with SANFL league teams for more than 10 years. James Trotter and Andrew Darcey look after the Woodville-West Torrens League side as the club physios and Lachlan Hall and David Heyneman work with their Centre for Excellence and U16/18 programs.

 

We have also looked after Adelaide University in the SA Amateur League Division 1 competition for the past 10 seasons, with Jonathan Grace and Alex Bogumil looking after the team in 2018. From 2017 we have also covered the Henley Sharks in the SA Amateur League – helping them in their premiership year in Division 2 and will work with them in Division 1 in 2018.

Netball

NetballThe practice has formed a close relationship with a number of netball clubs over the years, treating netballers of all levels from grass-roots to national levels.

Our role with the club includes attending trainings, treating injuries in our clinic and preparing the players on game day.

We also provide musculoskeletal screenings for school and club level athletes from all over Adelaide.

Our physios have worked with elite rowers around Adelaide for more than seven years.

We work with rowers from school kids starting out right through to the current senior Australian Team.

We also provide screening services to school groups and clubs, as well as injury prevention lectures, to help keep rowers on the water

Andrew Darcey is the current physiotherapist for the SASI Rowing Program and is also a touring physiotherapist with the Australian Rowing Team, travelling with the team on their overseas tours to keep them rowing at their best.

Andrew has an extensive knowledge about rowing injuries and the correct and up to date ways of managing them.  This has been passed onto all the staff at Leading Edge, so no matter who you see, you will know that they are familiar with treating rowers and rowing related injuries.

Canoeing

sasi-canoingOne of the latest sports we have started to cover is Canoeing and Kayaking within the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI).

James Trotter is the current physiotherapist to the SASI Canoeing program and travels with the team to major events and championships.

We also provide musculoskeletal screening services to the team and can provide this service to anyone competing within the canoeing disciplines.

Athletics

athleticsTrack & Field (Athletics) is one sport that at Leading Edge you know you will be getting world class service.

James Trotter has travelled as team physiotherapist to the Australian Athletics team for a number of years – attending World Cup and World Championships and supporting our Australian athletes to medal-winning performances.

We also provide the latest in biomechanical analysis at Leading Edge which can prove the difference in identifying the root cause of any niggling track and field injury that is affecting your ability to stay on the track.

 

Water Polo

water-poloWater Polo is another of our water-based sports that we provide elite level sport coverage for.

James Trotter has been the team physiotherapist for the SASI Water Polo Program, the Adelaide Jets National League Water Polo team and the Australian Women’s Water Polo team for a number of years.  He helped the Women’s team (and Adelaide’s own Isobel Bishop) to a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships

We provide musculoskeletal screening services to the Adelaide based teams and treat water polo athletes from all backgrounds.

Sailing

sailingSailing has been one of the most successful sports for Australia over the past few years.  The Australian Sailing Team has been successful on an international stage, including the Olympic Games, where is was Australia’s most successful sport.

Andrew Darcey has had a life-long involvement with sailing.  Having represented Australia at a junior level he has gone on to win multiple SA State Championships in the Laser Class and been an athlete in the SASI Sailing Program.

Andrew has gone on to be a program physiotherapist for the SASI Sailing Program and more recently has been selected as a network physiotherapist for the Australian Sailing Team – travelling interstate and overseas to help keep our sailing athletes on the water.

Cricket

In 2017-18 Leading Edge and The Biomechanics Lab have joined forces to provide the Kesington Browns Cricket Club an excellent service to help keep their cricketers fit and firing on the park.

Physiotherapists David Heyneman and Mathew Rushton have been attending training sessions as well as performing musculoskeletal screenings on the senior players, and podiatrists Chris Bishop and Rob Parish have been performing footwear screenings and providing advice as required.
